The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS) announced the start of a $1-million four year project on Dec. 17 and aims to help British Columbia’s South Coast communities in preparing and adapting for future sea level rising and flooding.
The project titled “Living with water” will address how to assess coastal flood risk while keeping with community values as well as Indigenous knowledge and perspectives. "Living with water" will center around developing tools for planning, design and decision making to address certain aspects of coastal flooding such as tackling regional flooding with a multi-level governance approach and creating alternate solutions for flood adaptation.
The PICS project is led by the University of Victoria (where PICS is based) and the University of British Columbia in collaboration with other leading universities, municipalities, legal experts, Squamish Nation (Skwxwú7mesh), Tsleil-Waututh Nation and the BC government.
