During a press briefing in Chelsea on July 3, the Premier of Quebec François Legault said he is open to the implementation of an Energy from Waste facility in the Pontiac sector of the Outaouais region.

François Legault was in the Outaouais to meet with various local officials in order to discuss regional issues such as the forest industry and the health care system.

The Energy from Waste project, highlighted over recent months in particular by the Warden of the MRC Pontiac Jane Toller, is a project intended for the collect of household waste deriving from the urban areas of Ottawa and Gatineau, along with the Rural areas of Pontiac and the Ottawa Valley, in order to transform the waste into clean energy. In addition to the possibility of creating of approximately fifty jobs in the region, according to Toller, a study is currently being conducted by École Polytechnique on waste management in Outaouais.

In June, Jane Toller mentioned that she had also approached the various Wardens in the Outaouais, as well as the mayor of Gatineau, Maxime Pednaud-Jobin, regarding her idea.

More details to come.
