October is the fist-ever Circular Economy Month and Newfoundland's environment minister's weighed in on what the province is doing to reduce waste.

Circular Economy Month, launched by the Circular Innovation Council, aims to increase awareness about an economy that promotes the development of new, responsible and sustainable ways for products and materials to be maintained, reused, remanufactured and recycled, according to its website.

Across the province, Environment Minister Bernard Davis says this would mean less waste heading to landfills. For example, he says TVs can be broken down and parts used. Davis says the Multi Material Stewardship Board (MMSB), the board that manages landfills in the province, is doing a great job but there are other opportunities. He says they’re looking at what to do with printed packaging materials.

The MMSB Facebook page has information about waste and recycling. The month also coincides with Waste Reduction Week this week.
