On Friday morning (October 20) representatives of Pontiac High School as well as several community groups and municipalities gathered to celebrate the renovation of the school's outdoor courts.
PHS physical education teacher Darcy Findlay explained that the project had been in the works for the past two years, with the objective of resurfacing the court and adding new lines and infrastructure to accommodate several different activities from pickleball to basketball. While the courts are on school property, they will also be accessible to the community.
Mary Ann Abrams of the Shawville Pickleball Club thanked the attendees for putting the project together and said that she was excited to break in the new courts.
The total cost of roughly $100,000 was broken down as follows: $7,500 from the Shawville Lions Club; $5,000 each from the Municipality of Shawville, Municipality of Clarendon and the Shawville Rotary Club; as well as $1,000 from the Pontiac Maison des jeunes with the remainder covered by the Western Quebec School Board.
