A new event for families and residents of all ages is happening this week in Loyalist Township.

A range of family-friendly activities will be taking place at the Leisure and Activity Centre in Amherstview from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, including a free barbeque.

The recreation department felt the township was in need of a family-fun event and barbeque to end off the summer. Since the pandemic, and the end of summer camps, there haven't been any sorts of events like this run by the Township. Recreational Programming Coordinator Susan McNeill explained how the township based their idea for the event off of a similar event for families of camp attendees.

"We used to have summer camps, and we would do an end-of-the-year barbeque. So, it's kind of playing off of that, but it's for the public. It's for the entire community," said McNeill.

Activities include a DanceFIT fitness class similar to Zumba, a disc golf demonstration presented by Limestone City Disc Golf Club, an art station, and a Tiny Tumblers area for families. Most activity will take place on the Willie Pratt Sports Fields adjacent to the leisure and activity centre.

The communications department at the township posted the event on Facebook.
