Distributions Payeur Inc. has been granted proper zoning in order to conduct business in Brome Lake.

Distributions Payeur inc. sells and services tractors and other farming equipment. They are a popular farming name in Brome-Missisquoi giving reason as to why they would like to re-locate to the Eastern Townships.

Payeur has purchased the former Canadian Ponds facility. Currently, the location allows for a car dealership, but not the servicing and sale of farming equipment. The Town of Brome Lake has approved a request for a zone change.

“In plain English, it’s a change of a certain area inside a zone which now is not conform,” explained Richard Burcombe, mayor of Brome Lake.

This is traditionally called spot zoning.

The change of zone will only allow for the sale of light agricultural and forestry vehicles. Small tractors and their attachments are classified as light vehicles. Combines, harvesters and large tractors are not permitted to be sold at this location.

“Really, I mean, it’s not a, it is just a small change of zoning inside a zoning, but not, but I repeat its not for the whole zone,” clarified Burcombe.

If the property is ever to be sold and used for the sale of heavier vehicles, a new request of zone change would have to be made to the town.
