Pettes Memorial Library in Knowlton just launched their home delivery book service for Brome Lake, Brome and West Brome through a partnership with the Lions Club.

“The service is that we are going to be able to deliver books to anyone who is house bound,” explained Jana Valasek, executive director of Pettes Memorial Library.

For people at high risk, or isolating at home, orders can be made over the phone. The order will then be picked up and delivered by the Lions Club. All health and safety regulations are strictly followed.

The library's mission is to promote reading during the pandemic. Currently, the building is closed for physical visits. Valasek explained that Librarians are of short supply so if they were forced to close due to sickness the library would be unable to operate for two weeks or more.

Browsing the shelves is prohibited, but the circulation desk is open. Citizens are able to consult the online catalogue and place orders over the phone. All orders can be picked up at the front door of the library.

“Deliveries will all take place on Thursday. So, by the end of Wednesday we need to have the requests in,” stated Valasek.

The Lions Club will also do pick up service when citizens are done reading.

In addition to books, the library also has DVDs available for borrowing. Books are available in French and English.

“We are really excited and we hope that we can fulfill whatever need there might be for those who find it difficult to leave home,” said Valasek.
