It has been one year since Janice Morrison was elected mayor of Nelson.

On Oct. 15, 2022, Morrison defeated incumbent mayor John Dooley. Morrison is the second woman to hold the position; Deb Kozak was Nelson’s mayor from 2014 - 2018. Morrison worked three terms on city council prior to being elected.

Morrison has three more years on her first term as mayor; the next election will be held in 2026.

Checking in with Morrison following her first year in office, she spoke with CJLY about her campaign strategy that resulted in her being elected, dealing with the provincial government, having a strong city council and some of the issues most important to local government.
