A December 31 hockey game in Nelson ended with eight players having to spend most of January off-ice, and the town's official hockey team without its head coach.

Now, the line brawl which broke out between Nelson Leafs and Beaver Valley Nitehawks is making the rounds on the internet, as footage from the incident has gone viral on Twitter and Reddit. The Saturday night home game became tense during first period, when several scrums broke out after two players collided.

With roughly 20 minutes left of second period, commentators and spectators saw players from the two teams ending up in a full blown brawl, with referees being forced to step in and break up the fights. The incident sparked an investigation by the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, who announced it has suspended Nelson Leafs coach Adam DiBella until completing its investigation.

Nelson Leafs said in a statement that the team does not condone the behaviour seen at Saturday's game, and that it accepts the penalties from the league.
