On a sunny Sunday afternoon in June 2013, Nelson BC’s Pat Henman was driving home on the highway near Invermere with her 19-year-old daughter Maia, when they were struck head-on by a drunk driver.

Although both survived, their physical injuries still remain, as does the emotional toll on both of them, their family and friends.

Henman, a veteran of the Canadian theatre and music industry, having toured the country for most of the 1980s, has written a book about the horrifying experience called Beyond The Legal Limit.

She’s also been inspired to share insight into the crash in a way that’s always come naturally to her — from the stage, with songs that express the intensity and the joy of the life changing event.

Henman spoke on Kootenay Co-op Radio's current affairs program about the production, emotional feedback from other victims of drunk driving and her meeting with the female driver who nearly took the life of she and her daughter Maia.
