A Nanaimo, B.C. veteran is spending today reflecting on his miraculous recovery after a near fatal attack in Afghanistan 14 years ago.  Captain Trevor Greene was on a peacekeeping mission, greeting Afghani elders, when he was attacked from behind with a machete.  His skull was shattered and it was believed he would never walk or talk again.  But neuro scientists in B.C. and the Royal Canadian Legion provided Greene with a high-tech exoskeleton that allowed him to walk.  Ever since, the Nanaimo veteran has been practicing brain exercises.  In a TEDD talk last February, Greene told the audience he visualizes his victories, including his goal to climb Mount Everest.

Greene's remarkable recovery has inspired the creation of The Legion Veterans Village, a $312 million dollar development under construction in Surrey.  It will include a range  of veterans services including the Innovative Center for Rehabilitation for PTSD.  It's slated to be completed by Remembrance Day 2022
