The veteran documentarian and activist speaks about his decades of work for justice, redress and dignity at a Heart of the City Festival virtual event Tuesday.

Sid Chow Tan has spent much of his seven decades fighting for what's right -- and trying to right wrongs of the past and present.

On Tuesday, the seasoned documentary filmmaker and community television producer will share his work and stories at a virtual event, 'My art is activism.' It's part of the 17th annual Heart of the City Festival, which celebrates Downtown Eastside arts and culture, and runs until Sunday.

The longtime Downtown Eastside resident told The Pulse on CFRO that he never thought about his film work as "art" until recently, but has increasingly come to view the hundreds of stories and testimonies he's collected -- about everything from saving Chinatown from development to demands for redress for injustices against the Chinese-Canadian community -- as a form of creativity and expression.
