A local property has received much public comment after being declared an "eyesore" by the Mount Forest BIA.
Coun. Sherry Burke brought the letter from chair of the BIA Andrew Coburn before Wellington North council on Monday.
Coburn called the building at 178 Main Street South in Mount forest a "liability to the general public," citing safety concerns due to the deteriorated state of the structure, and aesthetic issues.
Burke added the weeds in some areas of the unoccupied property beside the TD Bank are at least four feet high in her mind's eye.
Burke went on to say while the building will be developed eventually, people are rather anxious to see it tidied beforehand.
"I've brought this forward to staff based on some residential concerns I've received. Everybody understands that the property is to be developed," Burke stated.
"They also believe it can be cleaned up," she ventured.
The owner had not yet received notice of the letter as of the Monday night meeting in Mount Forest.
Coun. Penny Renken concurred with the letter's assessment that the property is tough to look at.
Mayor Andy Lennox added the process to demolish the building has been a difficult one.
"As I recall, that property, when we started the demolition, there were structural issues with the adjacent building. I thought that had been worked out, but I don't know," Lennox said.
"Initially, they had to stop demolition because it was interfering with the structure of (that) building and I'm just not sure what the status of that is," he added.
Lennox also pointed out the big two issues are the structure of the building and the weed issue.
Council will report back regarding the issue on Sep. 11.
