With a growing student body and overall population, second term City Councillor Ken Herar believes that Mission's infrastructure needs to grow in a way so that residents don't have to leave town to access education and medical services.

“We lack the infrastructure in our communities in terms of schools, ambulance services and hospitals, just to name a few things.” Herar says. “We need to be mindful of the fact that we need to grow and work with our provincial counterparts to do so.”

When former Mission mayor Pam Alexis first ran for Member of the Legislative Assembly in 2020 (now current the NDP MLA), Herar said that she campaigned on the promise to build a high school in Mission.

“It’s not only that we need another high school, we’re also lacking at least another elementary school that needs to be built.”

“We did speak with the minister of education in September, and she was optimistic about a new school, and we need to meet in January on what will happen," he added.

City council meets on alternating Mondays at 6:30 p.m., and the proceedings are available via webcast here.
