The Midsummer Music Festival is a festival of local, regional and national acts coming together for a weekend-long celebration of music. The event is typically held on the July long weekend, and 2021 marks the 39th year of this festival in Northern BC.

But this year, after a difficult decision made by the Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society Board, the festival (slated for Sept. 10-11) was cancelled on Saturday Sept. 4.

The following is a post made on the BVFMS Facebook page:

"The Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society has made the difficult decision to cancel the fall 2021 Midsummer Festival scheduled for September 10 &11th. The escalating numbers of Covid-19 cases have made it unfeasible for us to put on a festival without putting our community, performers, and volunteers at risk, as well as adding to the burden on our health care systems.

We know how important this festival is to our community. We are saddened to lose the opportunity to bring talented bands from across Canada to our valley to celebrate music alongside local and regional performers.

We want to thank all the volunteers, organizers, community groups, and businesses that have supported us this year and worked to put on the festival. Your dedication is inspiring, and demonstrates a true community spirit in these difficult times.

If you purchased a ticket, we will be issuing full refunds in the coming days.  Please goto our website smithersmusicfest.com  for details and updates as we go through this process together.

Even though we had to cancel this particular event, there will be more to come, as supporting artists is a priority for the BVFMS. The Midsummer Festival will be back in full force once the pandemic passes. In the meantime, thank you for all for your support and please stay safe.

Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society Board."
