St. Albert held a small fair called the Midsummer Festival in the new Rondeau Park in Midtown to unveil a new playground on Thursday.

The new playground is almost entirely made of wood, with lots of different play structures for all ages. Paul Lanni, president and CEO of Averton, spoke about the purpose of the festival and the unveiling of the playground in an interview with CFWE.

"It's really about awareness about this amazing [new] playground. This is something we envision youngsters and grandparents being able to enjoy their time playing in this park," Lanni said.

"It's a nice open space...and this is a labor of love to really create something different in the city," Lanni added.

Midtown is an in-development community on the southwest side of St. Albert that's being developed by Averton and Lanni said that it is in its "first phase."

"We're deep in the midst of our first phase. We have additional phases [that involve] a large senior's development that's starting later this year. It's going to take a few years to get through it, but everyday we're getting closer to that point," he said.

As for the first Midsummer Festival, there was a night market with local businesses, children's entertainment, live music from local artists, food trucks, and the brand-new playground.

"This is something we'd like to do every year, to bring the community out to celebrate being outside and enjoying ourselves," Lanni said.

"We're really trying to create an opportunity for people to have fun and gather, and just have a good time," Lanni added.
