Nominations are in and the 2022 BC municipal elections campaign is underway.

Candidates across the northwest have just over a month to convince voters to cast their ballot for them in mayor and councillor races in Smithers, Hazelton, Terrace, Kitimat and Prince Rupert, just to name a few.

One name that is missing from the ballot this year is two term mayor of Prince Rupert, Lee Brain.

Brain held the position of mayor for eight years but decided to take a step back to focus on family and other business endeavours.

Although he said the town will be in good hands for the future of Prince Rupert, he looks forward to seeing them advance the Prince Rupert 2030 plan he helped put in motion.

“Now the city is managing 50 major projects,” said Brain. “When I came in here we weren’t managing any major project at all, we basically watched the dust collect on our desks. Now it’s full steam ahead.”

Jason Hoang, Stephen Fitzpatrick, Chrystopher Thompson and Herb Pond are all in the running for mayor of Prince Rupert.
