Matthew Monias's music career is moving at such a blistering pace that the momentum is taking him all the way over to Prince George BC.

Known professionally as MattMac, he will be headlining Dak’et Shun Inli (Music in the Fall), a ColdSnap Winter Festival event. Appearing alongside Simbiyez Wilson, and Zenon+ this October 21st at the newly opened Knox Performance Centre downtown Prince George.

Growing up in Garden Hill, a remote fly in reservation community in Northern Manitoba, MattMac developed skill in hip-hop music production.

Further honing his skills since his 2016 debut “Help You See”, he recently released “Blurred Visions” to excitement and acclaim. Grabbing the 2023 CBC Searchlight Competition Grand Prize, and already working on his next release, it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.

Despite his current success, Monias continues to surmount challenges. Like most artists, he makes use of a computer while producing beats and recordings, though he does it without the aid of sight.

Advancements have been made in computer accessibility, but that doesn’t mean it exists everywhere. He states, “So it’s 2023. We talk about inclusion and all this stuff, but we're not up to a standard that’s usable. A lot of what you can do on a computer, a blind person is able to do. Sometimes we’ll come across a piece of software that isn’t equipped to work with the screen reader, and sometimes you have to find workarounds to get around this accessibility issue.”

Despite the frustrations and pushing for inclusion, it isn’t holding him back from making music you can groove to.
