The municipalities of Fort-Coulonge and Mansfield-et-Pontefract are teaming up to be officially named a “Village-relais” by the provincial ministry of transport. The designation means that the area is part of a provincial network of safe places for commuters to stop along the road, with certain amenities like gas and lodging.
The leisure coordinator for both municipalities, Guillaume Lavoie-Harvey, explained that the designation means that the community will be listed on a provincial database of safe places to stop along the highway.
He explained that there are certain criteria that need to be met and services that are required to be considered, and he is in the process of reaching out to local organizations that might be interested.
