Recently, 34 education professionals from across the province were recognized for their contributions to their students, schools and community with the 2023 Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Education, including a local teacher.

Davy Dosanjh was born and raised in Terrace and is a former graduate of Caledonia Sr. Secondary School. He's now chair of Caledonia’s social studies department, and he's involved in the school travel club, a debate club and is a key organizer each year of information and scheduling so that graduating students can apply for scholarships and bursaries.

Dosanjh was nominated for the Excellence in Education award by Caledonia Secondary Counsellor Patsy Chant. The award also comes with a $2,000 bursary for professional learning. Dosanjh has just started a Masters of Education program at UBC and says he will use his personal bursary to help pay for expenses.

The awards were first given in 2018 and this year, recipients were honoured Oct. 26 at a ceremony hosted by the Lieutenant-Governor Janet Austin at Government House in Victoria.
