Over fifty protesters converged on the steps of Picton's Shire Hall on Thursday, protesting what they called a "secret deal" between Prince Edward County and the local shipping terminal.

Protesters chanted "no secret deals” in reference to an arrangement struck between Picton Terminals and the County, of which the details have yet to be made public.

Picton Terminals has faced a string of bylaw infractions over the past few years, to the point where the county negotiated an agreement on some of the proposed expansion ideas for the terminals.

One of the elements being questioned by residents is a large storage of shipping containers, and plans to create what local MP Ryan Williams referred to as an "industrial hub."

Mayor Steve Ferguson addressed the protesters, saying while he couldn't share the details of the day's meeting with lawyers, he did say an industrial hub does not fit his vision of Prince Edward County.
