The Cortes Island Museum and Archives Society (CIMAS) is facilitating one more workshop to complement the Suitcase Project exhibit this month. Local poet Soma Feldmar will be offering the workshop to a limit of ten people on Oct. 30 at 10 a.m.

“She's a published poet and she's got her PhD in writing and English. And she also has spent over 40 years making origami.”said  Laura Balducci, CIMAS event coordinator, about Feldmar’s background.

The Suitcase Project is a traveling exhibit that will be on display until Nov. 28 at the Cortes Museum. The exhibit explores the experience of Japanese internment victims’ descendants and being faced with the hypothetical question, "What if I had to pack one bag and leave home, what would I pack?"

CIMAS has offered several workshops in relation to the exhibit, highlighting local’s skills and traditional roots. Earlier in the season, the museum hosted a Japanese cooking workshop, as well as a Sashiko workshop. Sashiko is a traditional Japanese textile technique. The workshops are usually by donation, and open to anyone who would like to sign up. To lean more about the Origami and Haiku Workshop, email cimas@twincomm.ca
