George Sirk has been passionate about making films since his early adulthood. Now, many of his early short works have been digitized and will be presented to the public on Sunday, July 17 at Cortes Island's Mansons Landing Community Hall. The event is called Cortes Cinema, Out Of The Archives.

Sirk says the films range in length from four minutes to 40 minutes. Some are serious documentaries and others are humorous, satirical pieces inspired by the filmmaking styles of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and others. He adds that the films reflect the life and times of Cortes Islanders in the 1970s and early 1980s and serve as historical records.

Entrance to the screening is by donation, with all proceeds going to the Cortes Island Museum and Archives Society, which intends to post the films to its website.

Sirk says some of the movies have never been seen before and he's excited to have them premiere before a summer audience.
