It’s been three years since the Whaletown Community Club (WCC) has hosted an indoor event for Halloween but this season, the WCC is celebrating the scary season with three local acts at the Gorge Hall on Oct. 29.

Newly formed folk rock band Big Buzz will open for the familiar Back Eddy and the Procrastinators—with Sassparilla disc jockeying between instrumental ensembles. Back Eddy and the Procrastinators have been around since 2011 and are returning to the limelight after a brief hiatus. Meanwhile, Sassparilla has been spinning tracks since 2008. All of three musical acts got their start on Cortes Island.

This will be the live debut performance for Big Buzz. Band members include Zach Sukuweh, Mark Fraser, Hannu Huuskonen and Back Eddy Alum, Sean Sprungman and Adam Schick. The band got together this past summer, composing several original works.

Big Buzz guitarist Mark Fraser is eager to share the sound with the community.

“We have a jam feel and looking forward to putting it out there to all the lovely ears and minds of Cortes.”

The event is for all ages. Doors are at 8 p.m. and Big Buzz will begin performing shortly after.

The WCC will also be hosting their annual outdoor event on Halloween at the Old Schoolhouse Art Gallery, with hot apple cider and fireworks every year on Oct. 31.
