With less than a month to go, the Liberal party has chosen Dr. Jennifer Grenz to run in North Island-Powell River during the 2021 federal election.

Grenz is a proud member of the Lytton First Nation and a sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia. On her candidate website, Grenz notes that she has worked in non-profit environmental organizations, runs her own small business and is a mother of three.

“I could have made a fancy intro video, filled with inspiring images of me in the riding, moving music and bumping elbows with people, but after spending the last five years working throughout the riding and getting to know so many great people, I know that a fancy video is not what the folks here want,” said Grenz in a recent promotional video.

She asks if the riding would be better served by an MP from the party in power, adding that it is time for Canadians of all political persuasions to work together.

Vancouver Island has not sent a Liberal MP to Ottawa since Keith Martin was elected in Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca in 2008.

Peter Schwarzhoff, their candidate in the last two federal elections, placed fourth, in 2019.

As of yesterday 338Canada, one of the nation’s leading election projection websites, stated the most probable outcome of this election is another Liberal minority government.
