Last Stand West Kootenay (LSWK), the local environmental activist group, is hoping to grow its organization with new membership events.

Last Wednesday, the group held its first "Fresh Faces" meet-up - the monthly meetings aim to help increase their membership and discuss ideas.

The group is known for their protests in Argenta last year. 17 members of LSWK were arrested for attempting to defend the old growth forest from the activities of a logging company called Cooper Creek Cedar. CJLY attempted to contact legal representation for LSWK members but didn't receive a response.

LSWK was also involved in defending an old growth forest on Russel Creek Road in Slocan last October.

Avery Florence, one of the 17 protestors who was arrested, joined CJLY to discuss the ongoing case stemming from the arrests, Last Stand West Kootenay's current plans, and the new "Fresh Faces" meet-ups.
