The Lakeland Jaguars will host the U18 Female B Hockey Alberta Provincial Championship set for March 30- April 2 in Cold Lake for the second year in a row.
The tournament welcomes teams from all around the province, including teams from Goodfish Lake First Nation, Cold Lake First Nation, and Elizabeth Métis Settlement.
Anita Metchewais, manager of the U18 Lakeland Jaguars, spoke about how it came up, and how they won the hosting rights again.
"If nobody else stepped up, we would take another crack at it. That's what we did, and they selected us once again," she said.
The Jaguars hosted last year's championship and, not only did they welcome teams from far and wide, but the team also won the championship in their home rink.
The Jaguars went undefeated in the regular season last year, swept their way through the tournament's brackets, and eventually won the title against their rivals, the Lloydminster Blazers, 4-0.
This year's tournament is looking to be a little bit scaled down in comparison, but Metchewais says there are more events for everyone to partake in this year.
There were eight teams that participated in 2022. This year, only six teams are partaking, with the removal of wild card team eligibility. For the fans, there are raffles and markets at the Cold Lake Energy Centre during the tournament.
