Indigenous musician Kym Gouchie will be revisiting Terrace to perform this week.

In her interview with CFNR, Gouchie talked about her experience living in Terrace for some time in the 1980s, long before her venture into the music industry. She participated in a radio broadcasting course with Northern Native Broadcasting with the aim of becoming a radio broadcaster.

When talking about incorporating culture into her performances, Gouchie said that she will normally start with a greeting in her traditional language.

"I think it just sort of reminds people that we all have different cultures and different ways of communicating," Gouchie said of having her audience repeat a Deka greeting back to her.

Gouchie, who comes from the Lheidli T’enneh Nation, creates music that accompanies traditional singing and hand drumming with guitar, cello, and various other instruments.

Gouchie will also be joined on stage by cello player and vocalist Naomi Kavka, guitarist Jeremy Pahl, and rhythm player Zak Windle.

Following her performance at the R.E.M Lee Theatre on March 10 at 8 p.m., the group will make their way to Kitimat to perform at the Mount Elizabeth Theatre.
