On Friday, September 15th, approximately 200 protestors gathered at the intersection of Union St. and University Ave. on Queen’s University campus to support climate action.

This protest was a part of a global event on Friday which aimed to bring climate issues to the forefront. The global effort was led by the organizations Fridays for Future and Fight Fossil Fuels, with more than 500 gatherings taking place around the world. With global leaders discussing climate action at the United Nations in New York and parliament reopening on September 18th, the coordinated action for climate justice comes at fitting time.

The strike on Queen’s University campus was sponsored and led by Queen’s Backing Action on the Climate Crisis (QBACC), Seniors for Climate Action Now!, 350 Kingston, and No Clearcuts Kingston. The event attracted a large crowd as members of local climate action organizations, individual attendees, and those who happened to pass by the busy intersection joined the crowd. The protest included speeches from local activists and experts, as well as live music from local musician Frank Ryan.
