With Canada’s inflation rate reaching a record high of 7.7 per cent recently, Partners In Mission Food Bank has seen demand 19 per cent higher so far this year than in all of 2021, which was also a record breaking year.

“When those who were managing on their own, get hit with higher gas bills, higher grocery bills... it’s really starting to impact them. We are seeing a significant increase this year... we’re making records on records. This isn't just a bump, we're up a lot over our record year last year," Food Bank Executive Director Dan Irwin says.

Irwin says the food bank is still meeting community demands.

“So far we’re managing to meet it all…We had planned on a fair amount of inflation…but the actual demand has shocked us that it’s this high, it’s unprecedented.”
