The Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Indigenous Tourism Alberta (ITA) forged a formal partnership on Tuesday, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU at the River Cree Resort & Casino.
With the MOU, the two organizations look to bring attention to Indigenous tourism in Alberta, help observe days of reflection and celebrate Indigenous holidays, set an example for other Canadian airports, and create a focus on reconciliation and further connections.
Myron Keehn, vice president of Air Service, Business Development, ESG and Stakeholder Relations at Edmonton International Airport, stated in a release that the “connection to our region, its people and its history is an important part of being an airport for everyone and creating a meaningful relationship with our Indigenous partners."
