The Creating Hope Society of Alberta has been running an ongoing program called “Indigenous Boys Matter Too!”, a non-therapeutic program that promotes wellness for Indigenous men.
The program is meant to help Indigenous men start their healing journey, better themselves, and teach Indigenous ceremony and culture.
The first cycle of the brand-new program is currently underway, while the second cycle is set to open up in April and kick off in May.
Ambrose Cardinal, program coordinator of “Indigenous Boys Matter Too!,” spoke with CFWE about how the purpose of the program is to "provide a base-cultural knowledge and an understanding of how to better themselves through our culture."
Cardinal also hopes that all of the Indigenous men that take part in the program, both current and future participants, leave with a greater sense of pride in themselves.
"What we're hoping to instill is: self-pride, self-esteem, and the development of sustainable roles for Indigenous males in the community... so they can provide for their families and live the traditional way," he said.
