Hydro One is gearing up for a planned power outage that will affect parts of Six Nations in June.
Erika Dawson, senior advisor of Indigenous relations for Hydro One, attended the Six Nations Elected Council meeting on Tuesday and explained why Hydro One needed to shut off the power to Caledonia TS, an electrical substation, located on Argyle Street.
The eight hour planned outage from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on June 3, would affect approximately 2,000 customers on Six Nations.
Hydro One says there will be automatic call outs and mail outs that will go to all affected customers and that all the addresses and a map of the affected area has been given to public works. In addition, they plan to supply generators for those people affected.
But there were still many questions from councillors regarding other concerns such as the weather, emergency medical equipment, sump pumps and freezers full of meat that would be affected over such a long period without power.
A planned pop up information session is planned for the community on April 17.
Dawson also said she is trying to see if the scheduled outage can be shorted.
