Snowboarders and skiers can breathe a sigh of relief: the Smithers downhill resort is opening on its planned date of Dec. 4. COVID-19 restrictions in British Columbia have increased and with it, fears of non-essential businesses closing for the season.
Lex Rei Jones, general manager of Hudson Bay Mountain, assured Chris Gareau that the resort is opening with new protocols but that they are in line with new safety measures.
Jones contacted ski and snowboard resorts down in New Zealand to find out how they ran their businesses with new restrictions, and happily applied best practices learned from those resorts.
Get your ski on, Smithers! Starting Dec. 4, the mountain is open!
