The regional health authority (CISSS de l'Outaouais) is seeking to increase the vaccination rate in the Pontiac by making the process as convenient as possible.
Mobile vaccination clinics have been popping up throughout the more remote areas of the region over the last month. There will be one next week on Aug. 17 at the Otter Lake Recreation Centre, 392 rue Tessier from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will also be one stationed at the Shawville Fair over the Labour Day weekend. In addition to the vaccination centre at the Campbell’s Bay RA Hall, numerous pharmacies throughout the region are also offering jabs.
Nicole Chaput, assistant for proximity services in the Pontiac at the CISSS de l'Outaouais, said that, at the moment, MRC Pontiac has the lowest rate of vaccination in the region, particularly among the young adult crowd (18-35).
Chaput talks about the age ranges with the lowest rates of vaccination.
Chaput said that while there haven’t been active cases in the Pontiac sector for quite some time, that is no reason to be complacent. She pointed out that it took some time for the virus to arrive in the Pontiac initially, and said that rising case counts in other regions should cause concern.
Chaput talks about rising cases in other regions, and why that is concerning for the Pontiac.
Residents can show up to these clinics for a first or second dose, with or without an appointment. Chaput said they should also bring their health card and in the case of a second dose, they should remember the date of their first jab.
