Earlier this week, Six Nations Elected Council had its official swearing-in ceremony for its newest councilor Gregory Frazer.

On Sept. 3, Frazer won a by-election with 89 votes.

Chief Mark Hill and fellow council members welcomed Frazer to his new position, with Hill calling it an "exciting evening" for council.

Frazer had his swearing in ceremony at the Six Nations Elected Council chambers and he talked about his election and being able to represent Six Nations of the Grand River.

“I would like to thank everyone for welcoming me here tonight, it’s quite an honour to represent Six Nations,” he said.

With his election win, Frazer is now the ninth member of elected council taking over for former councilor Wendy Johnson, who stepped down on June 26.

Frazer was one of four candidates in this year’s by-election also consisting of Alaina VanEvery, Vernice Hill, and Nicolas Wyman. Frazer narrowly defeated VanEvery with 89 ballots cast for him while VanEvery received 82.

Frazer will hold the seat on council until next year's council election.
