Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) is speaking out on behalf of farmers who are concerned about fertilizer tariffs and supply, an ongoing issue in Russell Township and rural Ottawa for the last few years.

Jeff Harrison of GFO describes the problems facing farmers in Ontario and in all of Canada. In particular, there are concerns with the tariffs and sanctions against Russia associated with the war in Ukraine.

Harrison, while understanding that the war is "horrific" and that Canada needs to set rules to show its official position against the war, also points out that supply has been reduced, prices have gone up, and the existing problems are made worse by the new tariff added to fertilizer orders. He points out the fertilizer has already been paid for, but the tariff will be added as an extra cost, harming Canadian farmers and Canada's food security in general. GFO recommends the federal government compensate farmers for the additional cost.
