As Gorge Harbour Marina Resort (GHM) proceeds with necessary large-scale infrastructure projects on the property, the management is attempting to minimize disruptions to services and employment the local community relies on.

On Feb. 6, Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation (QXMC) that oversees GHM released a statement announcing closures and cancellations for the 2023 season due to work on the water, septic and electrical systems.

Some of the mainstays that will be missed are the Floathouse Restaurant, permanently closed, as it is no longer structurally sound, as well as the popular nightly music evenings at the Fireside Patio. RV and tent site bookings are also being shifted to 2024.

The resort will likely offer much less seasonal employment this year, but the management hopes to retain the current year-round staff.

“I really appreciate everybody’s patience, from residents to our guests that had planned to stay with us. This is news that nobody liked to hear. But we’re getting through it. And a big thank you to the community for their understanding,” said Jason Johnson, general manager of QXMC.

Updates will be posted on qxmc.org and klahoose.org, as well as local social media.

The resort is located on Cortes Island, BC, and is one of the more recent acquisitions by QXMC, which is the business development arm of the Klahoose First Nation.
