Pontiac High School's athletics department has recently launched a community fundraising effort to install retractable bleachers in the school’s gymnasium.

PHS physical education teacher Darcy Findlay explained that the "Take your seat" campaign has been in motion for only a few weeks at this point, and it was the result of a brainstorming session with other staff members about how to improve the space. He said that lugging out folding chairs or sitting on the floor during assemblies or sporting events was a suboptimal situation.

He said that the cost they’ve been quoted for a fully was around $75,000 including installation, and they’ve already seen some significant donations come in. Members of the public are able to sponsor individual seats for $200 a piece. He compared it to the fundraising efforts made by alumni and other members of the community during the renovation of the school's auditorium that took place several years ago.

Currently they're only accepting cash and cheques. Those looking for more information can contact Findlay at dfindlay@wqsb.qc.ca or Matt Greer at mgreer@wqsb.qc.ca.
