Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel spoke with CHIP 101.9 about the start of her “Green and Prosperous Pontiac” initiative that will get underway this week. She explained that the goal of her project, which launched in late November, was to prepare the region to respond to the “fight against climate change, the post-pandemic economic recovery and the achievement of the net zero target by 2050.”
The first roundtable meeting to start the initiative will take place January 31 and will focus on agriculture. Chatel said that the discussion will be between local farmers and agricultural experts, as well as Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau.
She said that there will be several more round-tables throughout the year focused on different sectors, with the goal of publishing the results in a “green book” early next year. The different sectors include forestry, waste management, housing and more. For more information on the initiative, visit their website.
Standing committee on finance
Chatel also spoke briefly about her work on the House of Commons standing committee on finance, saying that they were looking very closely at the causes and effects of inflation.
She added that the committee would be starting pre-budget consultation when parliament begins sitting again on January 31.
