The CW Network has returned to Brome Lake for the filming of TV series “The Republic of Sarah."
The American film crew was in town at the end of last year to film the pilot episode of this series. Following their departure, a lifetime film crew arrived to film “Christmas Ever After," followed by a third crew, for an unknown film, rumoured to star Mario Lopez and Betty White.
Some locals are unhappy about the current and previous filming, taking to social media to share their frustrations about the crew in town. Comments have been made mentioning it is unsafe and irresponsible of the municipality to allow so many “outsiders” into town during a pandemic.
The Town has stated that the film crew aims to impose as little inconvenience to the people as possible. No car will be stopped for more than three minutes at a time and residences/businesses with be accessible at all times, even though the film crews have blocked Lakeside road (main street).
“I want to stipulate that the government, the Santé Publique, allows this activity,” explained Richard Burcombe, Mayor of Brome Lake.
More people coming to town may increases the chances of virus exposure for Brome Lake but it also brings more business to the local economy, locals are arguing.
Two businesses, Star Cafe and Barnes Home Hardware, advertised closures for two days due to the filming in town.
In addition to the American workers, extra help was supplied both locally and from Montreal. Mel’s Studio was hired to aid in filming.
Not all feedback has been negative. Some locals actually enjoy the filming, saying it is a change of scenery during these COVID times.
“Please note that the provincial health authorities allow filming. Strict protocols are in place within the production team to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Most of the filming is to be done on private property. The producers assured the town that they will also take measures to limit the access from residents to the sets,” stated Ghyslain Forcier, Town of Brome Lake communications manager.
