Why one local drug counselor thinks that drug addiction starts from childhood. Dave Price, a drug counselor and community volunteer spoke to CIVL on the opioid crisis in the Fraser Valley and how COVID-19 has impacted substance users. Price says that during COVID-19, people have been isolated due to all the government restriction and fear of becoming infected. He says that some adults start taking drugs and other mood changing substances to try to fill their emptiness. Price says, if a kid is feeling abandoned or outcast and see drugs to be accepted, they might take drugs and remain addicted to it as adults. Price says another issue is hospitals prescribing patients painkillers which are opioids which are a drug that is highly addictive.
