In northern BC and the rest of the province, we should be expecting more extreme weather patterns due to the current climate emergency.

This summer, the province experienced a high heat dome a draught in many regions and now that temperatures have fallen, the trees are on unsteady ground which will lead to downed trees and power lines. BC Hydro has sent out a press release stating the extreme weather conditions will effect communities who rely on radio lines (a long, one-way line that doesn't feed back into a substation) this winter, and they should be prepared for outages during the cold winter months.

CICK News spoke with Bob Gammer, Northern Community Relations Manager for BC Hydro about emergency services that exist for remote communities, how to pack a preparation kit and what BC Hydro is doing to prevent power outages this coming winter.
