Six Nations Social Services is moving ahead with the expansion to the Social Services building located at 15 Sunrise Court in Ohsweken Ontario, that has been in development since 2014.

Director of Social Services Arliss Skye explained that the tendering of the building drawings was near completion during the Six Nations Elected Council General Finance meeting yesterday.

The expansion aims to increase office and cultural space as well as meeting rooms in an open concept format. Skye said the expansion will not require adding any additional land as the building will be going "up not out."

K.L. Martin and Associates Corporation has been hired to complete the detailed design at a cost of $622,600.

Elected Chief Mark Hill said that council would probably be seeing more of these types of projects in the future and that it was "about time we're going up."

Skye also requested a further meeting with council to discuss the expansion in greater detail at a later date.
