The Eastern Township School Board (ETSB) is now offering a private security guard training program to the community for pandemic purposes.

“The objective of this training is to train up to 10 new candidates to work in the private security job. So as a security guard or a security agent,” explained Martin Vigneux, centre director of development and business services for the ETSB.

The course is also being offered to train people to enforce the COVID-19 public health regulations in stores.

“There are many jobs in the region,” said Vigneux.

The provincial government is funding the project through Service Quebec. Eligible candidates must be 18 years or older and currently unemployed. The training will be over a period of 8 weeks during the day in person. The training will be at the Brome Missisquoi campus (adult education at Massey Vanier high school) in Cowansville. Monetary compensation will be provided during training. The starting date for the course is Feb 1.

Courses will be provided in French or English, depending on the preferred language of the accepted applicants.

“We organize the program to make sure that the candidate will have many different areas where they could work. It could be in a construction site, in industry, government or municipal services, it could be providing support in some events,” added Vigneux.
