The Elora and District Skating Club is feeling a sense of relief.
The organization has received confirmation that they are among the sport and recreation organizations nationally that will be provided with $5,000 in grant support from the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charity. Jumpstart’s $8-million sport relief fund grant will support 668 organizations to keep kids active and engaged in sports within their communities.
Shelley-Ann Morgan, on the board of directors for the skating club, said they’ve mostly been impacted by COVID-19 through the reduction of spaces available for participants, because of capacity limitations.
“We’ve had to increase our fees as a result of less registrations just because now we’re dispersing our overall club fees amongst fewer people now,” Morgan said.
But Morgan said she is very excited that they have received $5,000 for the club.
“So, that is actually going to go towards ensuring that our fees are kept as low as we possibly can for our skaters, and making sure that we’re able to offer the type of programming that meets the needs of the community,” Morgan said.
