Outgoing Clarendon councillor Ed Walsh successfully made the transition to the head of council, winning the mayor’s seat by a margin of more than 100 votes. He finished with 281 votes (63 per cent) which was enough to defeat his opponent Gerald Dagg, who received 165 votes (37 per cent).

It was the only contested seat in the municipality, with all six councillors being elected by acclamation. Walsh’s seat number 4 was filled by former Bristol councillor Phillip Holmes.

Walsh said that one of the issues that was concerning the voters he talked to was speeding on the backroads of the sprawling rural municipality.

He said that he was grateful for the confidence of the voters and said that he was glad to be able to visit residents in all the corners of Clarendon.

Out of 1,112 registered voters there were 446 valid ballots cast, with 4 votes rejected, for a participation rate of 40.5 per cent.
