British Columbians are taking the advice of public health officials to heart when it comes to getting a flu shot this year.  So far, more than half a million people in BC have been vaccinated for influenza.  The province is hoping to see two million people get the vaccine this year, up from 1.4 million last year.  The provincial health officer says getting immunized will prevent extra stress on a health system that is already dealing with increasing hospitalizations due to COVID-19.  However pharmacies and doctors offices in the Island Health Region have run out of the flu shot.  Nevertheless, Dr. Bonnie Henry insists, there is no vaccine shortage in BC.

People living in the Island Health region can book an appointment for a flu vaccine at a public health clinic by going online at islandfluclinics.ca   The next appointments available are in early December.
