A local professor says immigration to the Fraser Valley has impacted the region’s political landscape.

Ron Dart, professor at the University of the Fraser Valley, says when people are coming from conservative backgrounds, they bring with them a certain understanding of culture, economics and religion.

"Eastern European countries tend not to be as completely committed to getting on the train of liberalism," he adds.

Dart explains that when immigrants flee from countries in war, they bring their own histories and understandings of identity, gender, race and religion to Canada.
