Prince Edward County council voted to adopt a pound keeper by-law this week after hearing the impassioned pleas of local farmers two weeks ago concerning a 14-member herd of at-large rodeo cows in Sophiasburgh.

The bylaw which draws its powers from the provincial Pounds Act will allow the county to retain a pound keeper for the purposes of containing at-large livestock, as well as to recoup the costs of containment through measures such as adding the charge to the offender’s property tax bill, provincial court orders, and recovered cattle sale.
